Resize Photos Before Uploading to Facebook

by on Mar.05, 2012, under Facebook Photos, General, photoshop tips, resize photos

Your photos will look better on Facebook if you resize them before you upload
Unless you are uploading photos from your iPhone or Android you should resize them before you upload to Facebook for the best quality. The optimum and recommended size for Facebook photos is 720 pixels and if you upload a larger file Facebook will resize it automatically. But, the quality of the resizing algorithm is not as good as in CorrectPhoto or Photoshop or Elements. Resizing is easy to do in either photo editor, although it is a bit easier and faster in CorrectPhoto. Here are simple resizing instructions for both CorrectPhoto and Photoshop Elements.

CorrectPhoto Resizing

Resizing photos in CorrectPhoto is a single step process

With the photo open in CorrectPhoto click on the resizing icon to the left of the OneClick Color icon. In the case of this photo I changed the “Width” to 720 pixels and the height changed proportionately. Click OK and Save the resized photo. The resizing algorithm in CorrectPhoto is very good a will preserve the quality of your photo. For more information on using CorrectPhoto for resizing photos go to http://www.correctphoto.com/resize_images.htm.

Photoshop Elements Resizing

Resize photos with Photoshop El;ements

To resize a photo in Photoshop or Elements go to the Menu bar and click on Image/Resize/Image Size and another window will pop up. In the Document Size window make sure “points or pixels” is selected and type in the 720 in the Width box and the Height will change automatically if the “Constrain Proportions” box is checked. I also recommend checking the “Resample Image” box and select Bicubic or Bicubic Sharper to ensure good quality. (CorrectPhoto is automatically set for best quality). Then save the resized photo.

Signs of Spring-Photo Editing Brings Spring to Winter Photo

by on Feb.29, 2012, under crop photos, photo color

CorrectPhoto was used to crop and color correct the Winter Tree photo

Last night a bit if winter hit Minnesota with a mix of rain, sleet, snow. As I let Dickens (he is a Westie) out the front door I couldn’t resist taking a photo of the maple tree in the yard. I used my little Canon G5 with an external flash to capture the photo. As you can see the original was still a bit dark and wintery, but with a little cropping and color correction the colors of spring where quite evident. With CorrectPhoto I cropped the photo to get rid of the sidewalk and the branch on the left. Then I clicked on the snow and OneClick did a great job of brightening the image and bringing out the color in the branches. Then, to give it a bit more punch, I click on the Color Enhancement mode and boosted the brightness, contrast, and saturation and was good to go. The process took less than a minute.

You can try CorrectPhoto on your own photos by going to www.correctphoto.com.
