Did you Calibrate your Monitor Today? I Did.

Practice What You Preach!

A few weeks ago I wrote about the importance of a calibrated monitor when viewing and editing digital photos. (My Computer Screen—Is The Color Right? Does it Matter?)  Well, I should practice what I preach. I have been noticing that the “grays” on my laptop seemed a little blue and this afternoon I decided to plug-in in my Pantone huey and calibrate my monitor. It only took a couple of minutes and what a difference it made. My monitor color was off a lot more than I realized.  Look at the gray areas on this blog. Do they look a little blue or maybe magenta? Even if you think they are gray, my guess is that they are not.  If you have a monitor calibration device from Pantone (X-Rite) or a Spyder from DataColor I suggest you use it. If you don’t, I would recommend getting one. You can buy one for less than $80 and it will be well worth it.  My “January Resolution” is to calibrate my monitor at least once a week. We will see how well I do.
