Our Flag-A symbol of our Right to Vote!
Our Symbol of our Right to Vote!

One more week and this long drawn out election season will be over (we hope!) and we will begin to find out what the results will really mean for our country and for us as individuals. While I am certainly interested and, admittedly anxious, about who will be our next president and the make up of Congress, I am also very focused on who will be elected Mayor and Council Members in Burnsville, where we live. I have expressed my opinion to many regarding my choice for President, for Mayor, and Council Member along with my reasons. In the end, however, all I can really do is exercise my right as a citizen and cast my vote.

As I drove past our local Perkins this morning the sun was shining, a stiff breeze was blowing, and the huge American flag was billowing. The thought struck me that our flag is truly a symbol of our freedom as citizens of the greatest country in the world, the United States of America. And, as citizens we have the right and responsibility to cast our vote to elect our leaders.  By not voting we relinquish that right and, in my opinion, give up our right to “complain”.  No, I am not going to tell you who will get my vote for President or Mayor.  I am, however, encouraging you to exercise your right as an American citizen to go to the polls on November 4th and VOTE.

P.S. One of these days I will tell you how I cropped and color corrected the flag photo.
