Digital Camera Basics-Part 1
by admin on Oct.13, 2008, under Digital Camera Basics
Recently, I gave a presentation to my Rotary Club entitled Digital Cameras and Computers-Part 1 (how is that for a catchy title). Another member had suggested the topic because he had just purchased a digital camera and asked the proverbial question, “Now that I have a digital camera what do I do with it?” The attendance that day was high, not because I am a great speaker, but because so many people find themselves in the same boat.
Since I only had 20 minutes I decided to just cover some of the topics about “point-and-shoot” digital cameras and how they differ from film cameras and a simple overview of some of the basic information. Here is a very basic comparison listing of some of the primary differences between the two types of cameras.
For me the greatest features of digital camera are that you can take as many shots as you like and you can edit the photos you take. I use to say that the difference between and amateur and a professional photographer was the number of shots they took. The pros, of course, would disagree with that statement. The point is that if you can take and retake a shot and then “fix” it your photos can look a great deal better than your old film photos. So, go ahead and take as many shots as your subject will let you before they start to groan. Then pick the one that is the best and give it a little edit (usually just cropping and color correction) and I guarantee you can achieve greatness. But, more on that later.
I will cover more of this presentation in the next few posts. In the meantime, if you can’t wait you can view or downoad the presentation at http://www.correctphoto.com/publications/Digital_Camera_Basics-1.pdf
Next we will cover taking pictures and getting them into your computer.
